DEPARTMENT RECEIVES CLEAN AUDIT OPINION FROM AUDITOR-GENERAL

Date Published: 02 Oct 2019

The Department of Mineral Resources has received a clean audit opinion for the 2018/19 financial year by the office of the Auditor-General.

Presenting the award to the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe (MP), the AG’s office commended the Department for its sound financial management as well as controls in place to avoid fruitless and wasteful expenditure.

The Department has spent 99,4% of the budget allocated for the year under review. The Department further paid its suppliers within six (6) days on average. Over the past five years, the Department has consistently received either a clean or unqualified audit opinion with findings.

In the 2018/19 financial year the Council for Geoscience received a clean audit opinion, while the other entities in the minerals portfolio - Mintek, the Mine Health and Safety Council, SA Diamonds and Precious Metals Regulator and the State Diamond Trader - received unqualified audit opinions with findings.
