The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Mr Gwede Mantashe (MP) will tomorrow, 05 August 2021, visit the Mthimkhulu Centre and Housing for the Aged in Lynnville, eMalahleni, Mpumalanga. The programme forms part of the Department’s Outreach Programme to mark the end of the Nelson Mandela Month, July, and the start of the Women’s Month, August. The programme is aimed at empowering communities across the country, with particular focus on giving the necessary support to the vulnerable groups – the elderly, youth and persons living with disabilities - in mining communities and society at large.

The Mthimkhulu Centre and housing for the Aged was officially opened by the late Mrs Adelaide Tambo in 2005 to accommodate the elderly and persons living with disabilities. The Centre currently accommodates 23 people on full-time basis and provides food to 90 people who visit the Centre on daily basis.

The Minister is expected to be joined by the Premier of Mpumalanga, Ms. Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane, the MEC responsible for Social Development in Mpumalanga, Ms. Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, and the Executive Mayors of the Nkangala District and Emalahleni Local Municipalities, and senior officials of mining and petroleum companies operating in the District Municipality. The Minister is further expected to handover several gifts to the Centre which are of need to the Centre and the people who are in need of the services offered by the Centre.
